How To Receive Podcasts
For those already comfortable with podcasting, the RSS feed you need to subscribe to is “http://www.pressplaypodcasts.com/subscribe”.
Now if that means absolutely nothing to you or you just don’t know how to do it all then all is not lost. All of these internet programs and terms can be a bit confusing, so for those that aren’t up to speed with podcasts then read on.
Podcast is a general term given to the automatic downloading of files (DJ shows in our case) from a specific source, as and when they are updated. We don’t want you to miss a single show and through a feature within this website, you can have them downloaded automatically to your computer each time they update.
So, if you’ve never taken a podcast before, this page is dedicated “How To”, in order to get you up and running.
These instructions apply to all versions of windows but unfortunately due to the lack of support for vista users there’s a little bit extra for you to do before you can receive the podcasts.
First of all you need a podcast receiver, a program that uses a piece of online coding to check whether podcasts have been updated, automatically download them and can then even start them playing! A simple and easy to use program is “Juice”. ( It is also possible to use iTunes to receive the podcasts. We will update the “How To” with this very soon. )
Juice is available from http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/. Click to download and prepare to install it. During the installation process, check the box “Add To Startup Group” as pictured below. This will enable Juice to check at each start up of your computer for new Press Play Podcasts.

WINDOWS VISTA INSERT:
VISTA USERS ONLY : If you have opened up Juice after installing, you will get an error message. This is due to the fact that support for vista hasn’t been implemented for the program. In order to get the program working under windows vista please follow these easy steps:
- Click the windows / start button and in the start search box at the bottom type “Run”.
- In the next dialogue box that comes up type “%appdata%/ipodder/”.
- Right click “ipodder.cfg” file and click “Open”.
- On the next dialogue box “select a program from a list of installed programs”.
- Select “Notepad” as the program to view the file.
- The code on line 5 reads: download_dir = ‘C:\\Users\\[Username]\\My Documents\\My Received Podcasts’.
- Remove the word ” My ” from \\My Documents\\, leaving “\\Documents\\”
- Click File -> Save
- Continue the juice install.

Installation Continuation
Once the program has installed, open it up (Or it should open automatically). First you should click the “Subscriptions” tab (#1) and then click the “Green +” (#2) to add your subscription to Press Play Podcasts.
Now, in the box that has appeared, write / paste the address “http://www.pressplaypodcasts.com/subscribe” (without quotation marks) into the URL box and click save.
The podcasts will generally be updated once every fortnight to begin with and once downloaded, they will appear in your “My Documents –> My Received Podcasts” folder.
From here you can move them over to your generic MP3 player or use your designated media player to listen to the files.
Enjoy!

I have used Juice for a long time very successfully. I use it entirely for French radio broadcasts from France Inter.
I had a month’s break and when I wanted to start downloading again I found that even though my subscribed broadcasts appeared on the downloading lists they are frozen. I removed and reinstalled Juice and the problem is still there.
Can you shed any light on what is causing this problem. I tried their Help section, but found it completely useless. There is no way of contacting them.
